Want to travel? Stop daydreaming and Start Planning

Lots of people say that they want to travel more and if you’re one of them – what is stopping you? The fear of quitting work? Lack of money? These are just excuses, and you know it!

Instead of worrying about the future, start looking at the here and now and do something you will genuinely enjoy. Here are a few tips on helping you plan the  trip of a lifetime:

How long do you want to travel?

The world really is your oyster when it comes to traveling.  How long you want to travel for is completely up to you. Some people enjoy their travel in short chunks around work commitments, while others prefer to go for more extended periods and truly enjoy the traveling lifestyle. Only you can make that decision, so you just need to work out exactly where you want to go and how long you want to go for.

Plan an itinerary

Now that you know how long you want to go for,  you can start making some plans of where to go and when. Planning your itinerary can be one of the most exciting parts of planning a trip and gives you the chance to look at different places and get really excited about what you are about to embark on.

Write a list of all of the things that are on your travel bucket list – for example, Island tours, and look at the other places and attractions near to there that you may want to check out. Make sure you leave some space for spontaneity, local recommendations and things that you discover while you are out there, but it is always a good idea to have most of your trip planned out before you leave, especially when you’re going to be taking multiple flights across different countries and continents. It also helps you to pack accordingly and save money!

Work out your finances

Talking of money – planning your travel adventures is an incredibly exciting time, but the financial side is not quite so great. Even for the most frugal of travelers, it does not come cheap. You will need to work out how much it will cost you, taking into consideration your flights, where you will be staying, food and drink and sightseeing, as well as things like visas and passes. Your costs can fluctuate, no matter how well you plan, so whatever you think you will need, you will need to add a buffer to help cover any unexpected costs or emergencies.

Don’t forget to document your travel.

This is likely to be a once in a lifetime adventure, so savor every moment. Take photos galore – upload them to Instagram to share with family and friends back home or even start your own travel blog to document your travel and share your newfound knowledge with others. Travel is one of the richest experiences you can ever have, so stop daydreaming about it and do it!
